SUMMARY:The digital data room as an opportunity for competitiveness - a solution for SMEs
DESCRIPTION:Data rooms for SMEs – value creation and added value \nSecuring their competitiveness is currently the biggest challenge for many small and medium-sized companies in particular – rising costs\, verification requirements and a shortage of skilled workers are limiting their scope. At the same time\, relevant data on orders\, plant statuses and supply chains is distributed\, technically incompatible and rarely shared for fear of losing control – meaning that potential for efficiency and innovation remains untapped. Digital data rooms can help in several areas\, for example by flexibly utilizing production capacities in partner networks\, bridging bottlenecks and improving the company’s own ability to deliver\, as well as making service and fault diagnosis significantly faster and more precise. Data rooms rely on European standards and federated structures that avoid new data monopolies and ensure fair competitive conditions for many providers\, including SMEs. \nIn the workshop “The digital data room as an opportunity for competitiveness – a solution for SMEs” at the SmartFactoryOWL in Lemgo\, the IHKs\, VDMA and Fraunhofer provide a low-threshold insight into the “data room for everyone” and show in a practical way how SMEs can use such approaches step by step. \nAgenda \n\n\n\nBest practice event “The digital data room as an opportunity for competitiveness – a solution for SMEs” \nTuesday\, 28.04.2026\, 11:30 am – 4:00 pm\n\n\n\nTime\nProgram point\n\n\n\n11:30-12:00\nCheck-In\n\n\n\n12:00-12:30\nGuided tour through the SmartFactoryOWL\n\n\n\n12:30-12:35\nWelcome\nNissrin Heymann\, SmartFactoryOWL \nTimm Marvin Lönneker\,\nIHK Lippe zu Detmold\n\n\n12:35-12:40\nPresentation\nKerstin Zappe\, VDMA\n\n\n12:40-12:50\nMood check \n\nWhich of you comes from a company and not from an X project?\nHow would you rate your level of knowledge about data rooms?\nWhat interests you about the data room/data exchange?\n\n\nVDMA\n\n\n12:50-13:20\nIntroduction \n\nManufacturing-X\, SCALE-MX\nWhat are data rooms and why are they highly relevant for SMEs in the region?\n\n\nVDMA\n\n\n13:20-14:00\nUse cases from practice: demonstrators \n\n“Shared Production”\, EASY project\n“Collaborative Condition Monitoring”\, Factory-X project\n\n\n  \nFraunhofer IOSB-INA\,\nFraunhofer ISST\n\n\n\n\n\n\n14:00-14:30\nBreak with parallel demonstration and discussions\n\n\n\n\n14:30-15:30\nEcoChain” business game with a focus on sustainability \n\nSmall groups of 5-15 people or in a large group (in small groups in the short scenario\, the focus is more on the supply chain)\nReflection on results\n\n\nLower Saxony.Next\n\n\n15:30-15:45\nNext steps for SMEs towards data room readiness\nVDMA\n\n\n15:45-16:00 \n \nConclusion & outlook \n\nSummary of the workshop\nReminder of further events\nFeedback survey (Menti)\nClosing words Host\n\n\nModeration and host\n\n\n\n  \nA joint offer from the IHKs\, ScaleMX\, KIT.OWL and Fraunhofer IOSB-INA in Lemgo. \nWe would like to point out that the organizers will take photographs as part of this event and publish them for the purpose of public relations and reporting on the event.
