Data rooms for SMEs – value creation and added value

Securing their competitiveness is currently the biggest challenge for many small and medium-sized companies in particular – rising costs, verification requirements and a shortage of skilled workers are limiting their scope. At the same time, relevant data on orders, plant statuses and supply chains is distributed, technically incompatible and rarely shared for fear of losing control – meaning that potential for efficiency and innovation remains untapped. Digital data rooms can help in several areas, for example by flexibly utilizing production capacities in partner networks, bridging bottlenecks and improving the company’s own ability to deliver, as well as making service and fault diagnosis significantly faster and more precise. Data rooms rely on European standards and federated structures that avoid new data monopolies and ensure fair competitive conditions for many providers, including SMEs.

In the workshop “The digital data room as an opportunity for competitiveness – a solution for SMEs” at the SmartFactoryOWL in Lemgo, the IHKs, VDMA and Fraunhofer provide a low-threshold insight into the “data room for everyone” and show in a practical way how SMEs can use such approaches step by step.
